Congratulations to Charlotte & Hilary

Many members like myself will have noticed the brilliant performances posted by Charlotte Wadsworth over the season. We may not however have recognised the level of her exceptional performances. Nationally Charlotte finished 5th in the British Best All-Rounder competition with an average speed of 24.584mph over the three distances of 25, 50 and 100miles. I guess that this is probably the best ever British Best All-Rounder placing by a RVCRC rider, male or female unless anyone knows otherwise. Her times at the three distances were 56.57 for 25 miles, 2.01.18 for 50 miles and 4.24.33 for 100 miles. Her 100 mile time was achieved in the National Championship event in which she finished in 5th place and also won the 45-49 age award. All the above times were outright club records and also Lady Veteran Records. She has also established a Lady Veteran 10 mile record of 22.27, not quite up the 22.14 club record established by Rhiannon Allport as a Junior in 1999, but very close.

The National 24hr performance by Hilary Bell is well worth noting. Her 290.043 miles, the first ever 24hr event by a RVCRC lady (and possibly man) establishes a new Club Record. The above times and distances are the current best known performances. We do have a box or two of archived papers to examine but if anyone can help us with past history we would be grateful. There must have been many excellent unrecorded RVCRC performances over the years both on the road against the clock and on the track. Some of you may be able to recall them and/or dig out press cuttings. Please help if you can as I am trying to put together all available information.

Awards Evening Success

Awards_Success

It was Saturday, 16 January 2010, it was 6.30pm....no it wasn’t Crackerjack it was the beginning of a very successful Awards Evening and Prize Presentation.

Over 70 members were welcomed to the Wellington Park Conference and Banqueting Centre where they duly posed for photographs, some before they had chance to get to the bar!

The Chairman called the proceedings to order and the meal was served. An excellent meal was enjoyed by all and the service was super. As the meal came to a close there was a surprise for one of our youngsters, Chloe Pearson. It was her 11th Birthday and there was no one more shocked than Chloe when we sang Happy Birthday to her and brought out a Birthday cake, crowned in pink icing with 11 pink candles. All she had to do now was make a wish!

The Prize Presentation kept everyone on their toes from the Tourists in the Club to the Racers to the Volunteers. Tom Potter graciously accepted Honorary Life Membership. He was presented with a framed Certificate by the Life President Peter Ward.

Then came the Tourist Awards. Kevin and Darren couldn’t be with us to receive their Bronze Awards but the ladies who completed the Silver (Doreen, Hilary, Judy, Sue and Val) were all present to receive theirs.

Lee Carter collected the Hill Climb Trophy in his first year in the Club....come on you guys, you need more practice!

The Ladies Time Trial Champion and BAR, Charlotte Wadsworth, received her trophies for some phenomenal riding throughout the year.

For the second year in a row David Warren retained the Mens Time Trial Champion and BAR trophies.

The Road Race Champion this year was Roy Pearson who has high hopes of forming a ‘Racing Team’ for the Valley. John Nowell was shocked, to say the least, when he was awarded the Valley News Shield for outstanding achievement. This was primarily for his fantastic success in the Audax - completing the Fleet Moss in his first year in the Club.

The Greg Lemond Trophy for Services to the Ribble Valley was presented to Margery Pearson. Margery has been a long-standing member of the Club who takes steady rides, marshals at events and served as a Committee member for a number of years.

Janette Stratford and Gail Warren received bouquets as a token of the Club’s appreciation.

A busy raffle followed the Presentations, many thanks to those who donated prizes.

Stuart once again provided the DJ services and many people danced the night away. Before too long it was midnight and Cinderella’s carriage awaited!

We look forward to seeing you at the 60th Anniversary Celebrations next year.

The all new Ribble Valley Cycle & Racing Club Website

Following the Club Meeting on 25 January 2010 in which members participated in brainstorming ideas for the new Website, a further meeting took place to co-ordinate all the information into a format that was submitted to the appointed Company for production of a new Website. The Company has now started work on the Website and if you put in the normal RibbleValleyCRC.com web address into your search engine you will now get a message informing you that the current site is being revamped but in the meantime it will redirect you to the old site within 15 seconds. The old site then appears. It is hoped that work on the new Website will be complete by the end of March for launch at the start of the new Club Year on 1st April 2010.
