I first became interested in cycling after meeting my husband, John in 1967 – he was a member of the Ribble Valley. I used to watch him race and over time became involved with assisting at Events.
After bringing up a family my association with cycling was rekindled when our youngest son James became interested at the age of 8. When James was 15 we travelled to Assen to support him as he took place in an international cycling event for Under 18’s. When he was selected for the Olympic Plan we became more and more involved and attended Events all over Europe and were the proudest of parents when he went on to win the Tour of Snowdonia.
I qualified as a First Aider and supported the Club on Road Races and Time Trials for a number of years. I successfully completed a training programme to become a Level 2 Coach and delivered closed season circuit training for six years.
As a tailoress and dressmaker I am responsible for the Club Clothing and am available at the Club room on most Monday evenings. I also hold the position of Vice Treasurer and Assistant District Timekeeper for the Cycling Time Trials Association.
I enjoy touring and last year completed the Coast and Castles route from Newcastle to Edinburgh and three Audax rides, one each in England, Scotland and Wales! I also assist on the LEL (London Edinburgh London) Audax event which takes place once every four years.
